Happy Thanksgiving, more than a few days late… The best news John and I were sick over the holiday and Kimbell wasn’t!!! For the first time ever in her life she was healthy while we were sick. So exciting. Kimbell’s kidneys continue to be her constant issue. We are still going to the hospital twice a week and still doing IV fluids daily. She is still throwing up almost daily and can’t sleep. Seems like such an odd problem since when we were getting ready for BMT she slept all the time because her hemoglobin was so low. Her counts are all over the place these days but just above the threshold for neupogen and her hemoglobin and platelets are going up!! 🙂
What’s ironic about the post being so late is I have written it in my head a zillion times! We have so much to be thankful for. This journey has been 10 plus years in the making and so many people played an integral role at various times that kept our baby alive. I think about each one of them and how much they mean to our family, thankfully I still keep in touch with almost all of them even though some have long moved on to new places. We are eternally grateful though to all of them.
In the last year we have seen so much support and love from so many people. We will never be able to thank everyone the amount of thanks they are due, or even possibly begin to convey what their support has meant to us but please know that you are in our hearts and minds constantly. It’s funny because Kimbell now has a list of places she wants to visit to thank our friends that have been so supportive. If she had it her way we would get in the car and start driving! If only it were that easy 🙂 So please know we love you and even though I am so incredibly far behind on my thank you notes that we are truly grateful and wouldn’t be here without you.
Mom and Dad – We can’t ever possibly thank you enough and I am sure we don’t but I’m not sure J and I would have been able to keep our sanity without you guys this past year. We miss you guys so much and NC is simply too far away. Yes mom, I know I don’t always pick your calls up but like I tell Donna and Maura, sometimes it is harder to talk to those you love the most then talking to complete strangers. K wants to know if she is going to have her annual New Year’s Eve party with grandma and epa…. Sounds like you really need to come to TX 🙂
Last but not least, thank you Dr. Olvera for always being there for K and I, and checking on us. Even when you haven’t seen us for months you are always there for us – K’s wish trip, during BMT and most recently during our most recent struggles. To the man who gave our baby a future we never even dreamed of having you truly are a rockstar Dr. Jakub Tolar. And to the 23 year old woman who gave our daughter the gift of life, not a day goes by that we don’t think of you and pray for you. We will be eternally grateful for what you have done. Kimbell is counting down the days praying she can meet you. You gave us a gift no one else could give.

So beautiful, Paige. We all know and see your thankfulness. Everyone knows your joy and appreciation. I hope that someday I can be a match and give the gift of life to a family as loving and gracious as yours. Many holiday blessings to you!!
Yes, ma’am. Yes, indeed! 🙂
I pass along your updates to our son Seth at the Sheraton in MPLS — your thankful heart is inspiring!
I’m thankful for you Paige! You have such a kind and caring heart! Have a Blessed and Healthy Christmas and so glad to hear Kimbell is doing well and we will keep her in our daily prayers!
