Days 15-19

Our sincere apologies for not having written lately, it has been a bit busy to say the least.  The last few days have not been good for poor Kimbell.  Her counts have been great but it stops there.  Kimbell’s days for the most part consist of sleep, vomiting, nurses, doctors, more vomiting, excruciating dressing changes and bleeds.  All the days kind of run together at this point but one day she had a bloody nose for over an hour and a half, then another then another.  By morning her hemoglobin had dropped two grams so she got more blood.  We had discontinued the vanc that she was getting for the blood infection, which is normal, but a few days later her Hickman line was all messed up again.  They thought it was cellulitis and I’m not sure what else but now the bandages that were working are ripping her skin off and causing more wounds.  Vanc was finally restarted and wound care should be coming tomorrow.  The nausea and vomiting are awful but we finally were able to add yet another drug.  This one is quite interesting as it helps nausea and gives her the munchies.  What a great benefit, she wants to eat.  Now when she pukes she isn’t dry heaving!

We continue to be blessed in ways we could never imagine.  Kimbell has an amazing new quilt on her bed from some amazing people at SCS.  It is so beautiful, and has the shirt logos from various shirts over the years.  We love it.  Kimbell has received many cards and gifts that always bring smiles to her face.  Smiles these days are so far and few between that it makes each one even more priceless.  On Friday she was allowed to leave her room for the first time in 29 days and see Stitch.  He was so excited but she was crushed he didn’t recognize her.  In all fairness between the hat and mask how was he supposed to know.  The visit was bitter sweet.  She hasn’t seen Stitch since because she has been too sick to leave her room.

A huge thank you to Samantha W. for working her tail end off this past Sunday to raise funds for COTA in honor of Kimbell!  John and I will never be able to thank everyone for all of the support, care packages, visits, prayers, love, donations and cards.  Each one is so incredibly meaningful to us.  Please continue to pray for relief from pain, that the doctors can figure out what is going on, no more nausea or vomiting and that God be by Kimbell’s side throughout this journey!
